We are delighted to announce that Building Equality in Architecture Toronto (BEAT), proudly sponsored by BDP Quadrangle for many years, has been honored with the prestigious RAIC Advocate for Architecture Award. This recognition highlights BEAT's commitment to promoting equity for women within the architecture profession. Melanie Rank, Senior Associate at BDP Quadrangle, who has been an executive member of the organization since 2019 and serving as the Treasurer of BEAT for the past two years, contributing significantly to the organization’s success during this time.
Founded in 2015, Building Equality in Architecture Toronto (BEAT) is a volunteer-run organization committed to promoting equity for women in architecture through systemic and transformational changes. BEAT focuses on empowering women, enhancing the practice of architecture, and improving the human condition by fostering opportunities for community building, advocacy, networking, and mentorship. Under the guidance of a dedicated Executive and Advisory committee, BEAT has hosted over 110 events, including seminars and workshops, featuring more than 90 national and international speakers to advance equity, diversity, and inclusion. Initially a local initiative, BEAT has expanded into a national movement with chapters across Canada, supported by its members and accessible to all.
