At Human Space, a consultancy of BDP, we believe in a human centered approach to design that considers people first and incorporates broadest perspectives to arrive at better solutions. This means pursuing a comprehensive approach to city building that includes accessibility, wellness and social integration as essential components at all stages of the design process. Human Space is a division of Quadrangle.
Human Space is seeking junior built environment accessibility auditor to take part in accessibility compliance reviews of various facilities and properties within the GTA, with the potential to expand to across Canada. The role is very active and hands-on, requiring full days of work. Auditors will work independently as a member of a team and report to a project lead.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete in-person site visit accessibility audits assessing accessibility barriers and non-conformances, taking measurements and site photographs.
- Provide accurate data entry in excel and advise meaningful recommendation to remediate barriers.
- Write executive summary reports.
- Ability to work independently on site and while working collaboratively with the team.
- Ensure effective teamwork, communication, and high standards of work quality.
- Work constructively within a team to meet time-sensitive milestones.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and the ability to engage with clients on site.
Requirements:
- An understanding of accessibility compliance requirements, such as the OBC Section 3.8, AODA Design of Public Spaces Standard, better practices and interest in accessibility advocacy.
- Experience in completing independent site visit assessments.
- Strong ability to collect and organize large data sets.
- Expertise with Microsoft Excel, Word and Adobe Acrobat.
- Experience using Bluebeam is preferred.
- Experience in creating accessible documents.
- Flexible working schedule– some weeks may require more time commitment than others, including evenings and/or weekends.
- Ability to travel across Canada.
- Having a valid Ontario Class G Drivers license and use of a personal vehicle for business purposes considered an asset. Preference for candidate to be comfortable driving on the highway and city streets.
Auditors are expected to have their own computers with access to the Microsoft Office suite.
This is an hourly contract position with options for extension. Work is assigned on a project-by-project basis.
