BDP Quadrangle hosted our first virtual Hot Topic panel event on 8 April 2021, which discussed age-friendly living with invited subject-matter experts Dr. Mark Lachmann (
Medical Lead, Bridgepoint Campus, Sinai Health), Andrea DelZotto (
Executive VP, Community Development, Tridel), Thomas Wellner (
President and CEO, Revera), Julie Bessant Pelech (
Principal, Consulting Gerontologist, Bessant Pelech Associates), our own Director of Innovation Michelle Xuereb, and panel moderator Michael Nicin (

Despite clear demand for high quality age-friendly homes, property developers and housing providers continue to face challenges in delivering financially viable, attractive, well-connected homes for this growing demographic. As placemakers, it is our responsibility to create better, healthier and more age-friendly communities.
Our panel discussed the challenges and opportunities in reimagining the future of living for an aging society, exploring topics such as:
- The growing demand and social needs for age-friendly housing
- Current pressures on the Long Term Care system and the need for intervention
- Challenges and successes in age-friendly housing models
- How the development industry can innovate and accelerate age-friendly housing
